As much as we tried to have zero expectations after we learned that Luca had Down syndrome, we were hit with a huge surprise a few weeks after he was born. We learned that Luca was profoundly deaf in both ears.

The world just got a whole lot brighter. Luca Andrew Wirick entered the world eight days early and perfectly on time. He is our bringer of light, and the sweetest bundle of love.

After we learned about the 85% likelihood that our baby had Down syndrome, the rollercoaster of emotions begun. For us, we processed hard and we processed fast. The next day we went to our favorite date spot, popped some champs, and celebrated our Totter Bear.

“Did you know about his diagnosis before he was born?”

This is a common question, and one that doesn’t have a straight-answer. The simple answer, is yes. We had a pretty good idea.
